American City seeks reporter for national news desk

ACBJ 2016ACBJ 2016The reporter on the National News Desk of American City Business Journals generates a never-ending stream of ideas, spots trends and finds unique takes on national events that impact the business world.

This position drives digital traffic, builds audience with business-oriented and insightful coverage, and produces engaging content from topics and storylines that live in the national spotlight.

Duties

– Pitch, write, and produce timely, highly engaging stories based off national events/topics for use on national home page and in local markets on a daily basis. – Generate and produce visual storytelling content – slideshows, videos, infographics – for use across digital platforms. – Be fluent on social media in promoting content, being a thought leader and interacting with readers. – Contribute and create content for national projects. – Pitch, write and produce enterprise stories on a monthly basis. – Take on other duties assigned by Editor, National News Desk as needed.

Skills

– Background in reporting, digital media and business journalism. – Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure. – Strong writing, analytical and investigative interviewing skills. – Proven ability to utilize a broad set of tools to tell stories and engage the audience. – Excellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills with a strict attention to details and deadlines.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
