Alaska Journal of Commerce seeks reporter

The Alaska Journal of Commerce based in Anchorage is looking for a reporter to cover statewide business beats.

The job will begin Jan. 1, 2016. Experience covering business is preferred but not required. The AJOC is the state’s top business weekly in publication since 1977. Anchorage is the state’s population center, with about 300,000 people in the metro area out of a total population of more than 700,000. The city has many great amenities for all activities, and is within driving distance of many more.

The state’s leading industries are oil and gas, fishing, tourism, mining, transportation, telecommunications and health care. The federal government and the military are also large employers in Alaska. Responsibilities include filing for the weekly paper and website as well as posting to social media.

A degree in journalism or extensive experience in the field is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products and/or photography skills is a plus.

A drug screen is required. The Alaska Journal of Commerce is an equal opportunity employer. Salary and relocation expenses are negotiable.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
