AIM Group seeks a freelance journalist

Journalist to cover classifieds and marketplaces in North America

Are you a great freelance writer looking for a long-term remote gig? The AIM Group is looking for a reporter to cover North America. The AIM Group is the world’s only business intelligence service and consultancy in the field of online marketplaces — automotive, real estate, recruitment and general merchandise.

What we expect:

  • Learn, understand and become an expert in classifieds and marketplaces across North America.
  • Build a network of contacts and sources to cover the industry. Connect with CEOs, comms departments and industry insiders to deliver the strongest content.
  • Write short news items on day-to-day industry headlines on WordPress for com. Add intelligence, opinion and expert perspective.
  • Work on in-depth, long-form articles that include desktop research, interviews and charts.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone who is reliable, dependable, willing to learn and is a pleasure to work with.
  • Writers who are absolutely proficient in English. (If it’s your second language, or fourth, that’s great, but your English writing should be flawless.)
  • Someone who will develop a beat, whether it’s geographic or vertical-specific (recruitment, real estate or automotive), and consistently build relationships with sources.
  • Someone with a global perspective. Just because you’re covering North America doesn’t mean your sources have to be there. They can be anywhere, and should be.
  • Great reporting and interviewing skills, with an ability to track down people and get them to talk.
  • Someone who’s aggressive about finding new sources, whether they are individuals, companies or data, and working with them to develop great reports.

We think long-term. Some of our writers have been with us for 10 years or more. Our managing director joined us as a writer nearly 20 years ago. It’ll take you at least three months to get proficient in your domain, and a year until you can grow into one of our rock stars. But we’re patient, and if you work with us we’ll work with you.

The strongest candidates will be required to complete a paid trial to ask to determine their suitability.

To apply, please submit your CV, explain in a few paragraphs why you are the right fit, and provide links to your written work.
