Adweek is seeking an ambitious, resourceful reporter to cover the powerful network of agencies shaping the advertising, marketing, and media industries. This role will focus on breaking news, delivering deeply reported stories, and producing sharp analysis that helps Adweek’s audience understand how agencies operate, compete, and evolve.
The agencies reporter will develop sources across the industry and consistently break news on executive moves, client wins and losses, strategic shifts, and emerging business trends such as how the biggest agencies are adapting to AI. You will pursue investigative and enterprise reporting that surfaces stories others aren’t telling, bringing accountability, insight, and clarity to the forces and power dynamics shaping the agency landscape.
Success in this role requires strong reporting instincts, the ability to cultivate trusted sources inside key companies, and a writing style that delivers value to a professional readership. The ideal candidate is curious, persistent, and comfortable pursuing difficult stories, including those companies may prefer not be told. Their work will provide agency leaders and talent with the context, analysis, and intelligence they need to succeed in a rapidly changing industry. This role reports to the Executive Editor and collaborates closely with the Adweek editorial team. The position is hybrid and based in Adweek’s New York City office three (3) days per week.
Responsibilities:
● Author 5 bylined articles per week on agency news and trends
● Build and regularly check in with a network of sources for inside scoops and news
● Manage a constant flow of breaking news hits and longer, multisource trend features
● Contribute to relevant ADWEEK franchises, including the Fastest Growing Agencies list, the Agency of the Year awards, Creative 100, ADWEEK 50 and more
● Participate in Adweek’s coverage of events such as the Super Bowl and Cannes Lions
● Appear on ADWEEK’s podcasts and video projects
● Moderate sessions at ADWEEK panels or events
Qualifications:
● Minimum 3 years of business journalism experience or a relevant degree in journalism
● A hunger to break news and tell agenda-setting stories about the agency ecosystem
● A competitive go-getter eager to establish a career with and a platform on the ad industry’s leading publication
● A highly curious individual who wants to dig below the surface to tell unique stories
● A quick study willing to dive into subject matter that they do not yet understand
● Proven ability to write clearly and concisely on deadline, while contributing constructively to team projects
● Ability to cultivate a deep network of sources within the agency ecosystem
● Working knowledge of major agencies and holding companies a plus
