The Managing Editor will provide day-to-day newsroom leadership along with the Executive and Deputy editors, edit web copy and help writers hone their voices. He / she will work with the Editor to play a key role in produce multimedia projects and new digital offerings.
Key objectives will be:
To improve the efficiency of the print magazine production process.
To oversee the editorial calendar and get the reporters to file in a timely matter.
To help sharpen the voice in all of Ad Age’s stories, in print and online.
This position is integral to running a lean, efficient publication that is nimble enough to respond quickly to breaking stories but expert enough to do so in a way that is vital to industry leaders.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
Experience managing a newsroom’s staff of more than 10 team members
At least 10 years of journalism experience as a reporter or editor
Thorough understanding of the media and marketing industries, advertising and broader cultural trends
Exceptional news judgment
Background of and ability to motivate reporters and work collaboratively with wide-ranging personality types across the newsroom
Background coordinating and ensuring that all print, digital, research and events serve the marketplace
Leadership ability to maximize resources; improve efficiencies and make changes where needed
Must be able to represent Ad Age at public events, including our own conferences and events
Effective written and spoken communication skills
Ability to travel periodically
Must be able to work in New York offices; no relocation offered.
