The Manager, Social Media is responsible for working with local newsrooms on executing their social media strategy and keeping the company abreast of the latest industry news, changes and trends.
We’re looking for someone who is an avid user of social media, but more importantly, a student of it as well. The ideal person is always analyzing how others are successfully and unsuccessfully using social platforms. This position works closely with our marketing and advertising teams, offering useful insight and a helping hand when needed. This position is also responsible for owning and managing company-wide social media tools, like Sprout Social.
JOB DUTIES
· Keep ACBJ current with the latest social media trends, best practices, and social network changes. When Facebook changes its algorithm, you should be one of the first to know and alert others as to how it may affect our audience and content distribution.
· Use knowledge of social media to enhance storytelling in newsrooms. This includes assisting markets with creating social media strategies for specific news events/stories when needed.
· Work closely with the Manager of Editorial Analytics to identify social trends in local newsrooms that ACBJ should study and/or work with more closely.
· Identify new ways we can integrate social media into content, whether it’s a tweak to part of ACBJ’s social strategy or taking advantage of a new social media tool, like Facebook Live.
· Be the primary owner of the Sprout Social platform, including managing how the platform is used in newsrooms and corporate, as well as the relationship with the vendor.
· Train editors, reporters and other newsroom staff to use social media effectively. This includes webinars, group training sessions in newsrooms, and creating specific social media strategies for individual employees.
· Create and execute social media strategies for national content packages in conjunction with local newsrooms.
· Maintain relationship with Marketing and Advertising departments, consulting and assisting on non-editorial social strategies and campaigns.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate has:
· Background in journalism and digital media.
· Deep understanding of social media platforms and how they drive digital content strategy.
· Excellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills with a strict attention to details and deadlines.
· Basic understanding of newsroom analytics and how they play in a role in shaping social media strategy
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General office environment. Extensive computer use required. Some travel required. Ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays.
