The Charlotte Observer has hired Danielle Chemtob to cover economic growth and development.
She will start in January. Chemtob replaces Ely Portillo, who has moved over to the local government and politics beat.
Chemtob will graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill in December with a degree in journalism.
She interned this past summer at The Wall Street Journal and in 2017 at the Triangle Business Journal in Raleigh. She won the student Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing Best in Business contest this past year for a story she wrote for the Business Journal.
Chemtob has been the investigations editor for The Daily Tar Heel this semester.
