Indianapolis Biz Journal seeks real estate/sports business reporter

Posted by Chris Roush

Indianapolis Business Journal is looking for an aggressive, curious reporter to cover real estate, tourism and the business of sports in Indianapolis and surrounding communities.

This reporter will lead IBJ’s coverage of one of our paper’s most important beats: commercial and residential real estate, including the city’s booming downtown development as well as its growing suburbs. The reporter will also cover the city’s strong tourism industry (Indy has a top-ranked airport and is one of the nation’s busiest convention cities) and business side of the city’s professional sports teams (the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts and minor league Indianapolis Indians), college sports (including Indiana and Purdue universities) and amateur sports (Indy is home to several U.S. sports federations, including those governing gymnastics, diving and track). Indianapolis is also home of the NCAA headquarters and the Indianapolis 500 and other major racing events. IBJ’s real estate reporter authors a weekly newsletter and writes daily stories and once-a-week enterprise.

IBJ offers a chance to work in an affordable capital city with a metro-area population of more than 2 million people but in a smaller newsroom with plenty of opportunity to make a big impact. We expect this reporter to regularly write for the front page, to moderate real estate-related events and be the go-to person for breaking real estate news in our city.

IBJ is an award-winning, locally owned media organization that publishes two daily email newsletters; eight industry-specific, weekly email newsletters, and a weekly print newspaper. We sponsor a Power Breakfast series of industry-specific events as well as recognize young and accomplished professionals in a number of business categories. Visit us at ibj.com.

To apply, send a resume, cover letter explaining why the real estate beat appeals to you and three to five published stories to Editor Greg Andrews at gandrews@ibj.com and Managing Editor Lesley Weidenbener at lweidenbener@ibj.com. Please include links to multi-media work if you have it.
