Wired editor in chief Nicholas Thompson announced Wednesday that Andrea Valdez has been named editor of Wired.com.
She will be based in Wired’s San Francisco office, and her first day will be March 13.
“We’re thrilled to have Andrea join us at Wired,” Thompson said in a statement. “She’s done everything we’d want a web editor to have done: fact-check, edit, assign, manage, coordinate social media, and edit a superb website. She’s also just fun to talk to, and I can’t wait for her to start.”
Valdez joins Wired from Texas Monthly. During her tenure as editor of texasmonthly.com, she oversaw a site traffic increase of 250 percent and a 500 percent increase in social media audience, as well as the launch of two verticals and a redesign of the website in 2013.
Valdez will be taking the helm of a growing team at Wired.com, including the recent hires of audience development director Indu Chandrasekhar from MarketWatch.com and social media director Natalie DiBlasio from USA Today.
Thompson joined Wired as editor in chief in January. He was previously editor of NewYorker.com.
