Bloomberg BNABloomberg BNA,  seeks a Data Journalism Reporter to work with BBNA reporters and editors to develop, report and write stories and complex in-depth analytical pieces based on internal and external databases.

RESPONSIBILITES:

Employees of this classification perform most of the following, as assigned:

  • Seek out, report and write clear and understandable stories for BBNA editorial units based on data from a range of sources, both internal and external.
  • Collaborate with BBNA reporters and editors on data-driven stories
  • File breaking news alerts, as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain sources in the government and private sector.
  • Coordinate activities with other BBNA reporters and editors who cover related beats.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

3 years’ experience in journalism, preferably with experience in writing and reporting on federal legislative and/or regulatory issues; excellent writing and reporting skills; working knowledge of journalism principles and techniques; ability to make data-driven stories accessible and understandable to BBNA readers; ability to identify, clean, manipulate and analyze databases that are appropriate for BBNA markets; knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes; ability to use BBNA publishing tools and other technology effectively with BBNA training; ability to work on reporting projects independently or as part of a team; a demonstrated understanding of statistics and statistical analysis; familiarity with at least one scripting program such as Python or Ruby; familiarity with application programming interface (API) preferred; Bachelor’s degree with coursework in journalism or equivalent experience.
