Bloomberg seeks managing editor for Latin America

Bloomberg News is seeking a managing editor for Latin America who will report to the executive editor for the Americas and lead a team of about 90 journalists in 10 bureaus, from Mexico City to Buenos Aires.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record as a manager, understand the needs of our customers, be able to think creatively and strategically about improving coverage and have a talent for inspiring a diverse group of journalists to produce their best work.

In-depth knowledge of the region is preferable, and an ability to pull together staff from different teams and platforms is essential.

The candidate will help lead our efforts to continue developing the Speed Desk and local language news services. The candidate will also represent Bloomberg publicly and be expected to raise the profile of our company in the region.

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
– Proven experience in business journalism
– Experience working in a real-time news environment
– Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
– Ability to organize coverage and collaborate across teams and platforms
– Knowledge of the economy, financial markets, and business is essential
– Prior experience of managing teams
– Ability to influence teams, peers and senior stakeholders through matrix reporting lines and effective collaboration and communication
– Experience of sensitively handling customer feedback and complex employee relations matters
– Ability to provide constructive analysis of critical reporting/editorial processes
