Reuters is looking for a creative and dynamic bureau chief for Australia and New Zealand, who can take the file and the team to the next level with fast, differentiated spot news, exclusives and stronger thematic enterprise coverage.
He or she should be an adept communicator, within the bureau and the regional editorial network, with news editors in Singapore and Sydney, while ensuring collaboration between enterprise, Reuters TV, RVN, Pictures and Graphics. The role requires a candidate who can focus clearly to set an agenda, develop best coverage strategies and win.
The new bureau chief will take the reins at an exciting time. The end of the commodity boom has hit both Australia and New Zealand hard, with tumbling prices for coal and iron ore in Australia and dairy products in New Zealand blowing large holes in corporate profits and government tax receipts.
Australia’s political leadership has been in turmoil, with new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull facing a delicate balancing act to introduce a more liberal agenda on issues such as climate change and same sex marriage without alienating his conservative coalition partners.
The country has a hardline immigration policy and Islamist radicalism is on the rise in Australia, prompting attacks on police and the public and providing scores of foreign fighters for Islamic State in the Middle East, where Australian jets are joining U.S.-led bombing missions.
The candidate should also be adept at working closely with sales and other parts of the Thomson Reuters organization to deliver the file our clients expect and need.
