Wall Street Journal editor Gerard Baker sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:
One of the most important and exciting projects we will undertake in the coming months will be the Sept. 14 launch of the Global Editions of The Wall Street Journal, bringing a full-color broadsheet newspaper to readers in Asia and Europe. We’re delighted to announce that Margaret de Streel will become the International Editions Editor overseeing the daily production of the two expanded newspapers.
In this newly created job, Margaret, who is based in New York, will run a team of editors, working with colleagues there and in Hong Kong and London. Those who have worked with her or have been edited by her during her two-decade career here know she embodies the Journal’s highest standards.
At the Journal, Margaret has held a series of key roles in Europe and the U.S., including several stints on the news desk, writing the World-Wide column, editing European corporate news and helping launch a magazine on Central Europe before moving to New York as an editor on the Overseas Copy Desk. In Brussels, she was a member of the launch team for a redesigned Wall Street Journal Europe, which, in a shocking departure for the Journal at that time, ran color photos on its front page. Most recently, she has been World News Editor on the Real-Time desk, where she’s been deeply involved with all major international news over the last two years, serving Newswires and online and working closely with her print colleagues.
Margaret has an A.B. from Hamilton College and an M.B.A. from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, speaks fluent French and supplies a popular candy dish at her desk. She will report to Matt Murray in her new role.
