Bob Miller, the business section columnist for the Dallas Morning News who has been working for the paper for 64 years, wrote his farewell column.
Miller writes, “My title changed again a few times, and eventually, in the 1980s, our business editor at the time, the remarkable Cheryl Hall, asked me if I would like to write a column. I wasn’t sure. So I asked my wife. ‘Of course!’ said she. And that led me here, to my most gratifying experience at The News.
“The column was different in the beginning, full of names that make news (they taught us that at the Mizzou Journalism School) in the business world, primarily. But eventually I realized that the nonprofits, the old and new Dallas charities, deserved the attention that would create services to help Dallas become an even greater city. My column morphed into philanthropy.
“And it is you I want to thank for helping me make this column useful. You did the work; I just wrote about it. You have made the real difference in leading Dallas from a city full of building cranes to a city with a heart.”
