Marijuana Business Media, the most trusted publisher serving entrepreneurs and major investors in America’s legal cannabis industry since 2011, is seeking a Features Reporter with experience in business and financial journalism.
This is a full-time, work-from-home position with occasionally required travel. You must be located in a state that has legalized medical marijuana. We strongly prefer that you be located in either the Northeast or Pacific Northwest, as we already have ample staff in the Colorado area. The salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, plus 401k and health benefits.
Note: This is NOT a position for a lifestyle or consumer media reporter, nor is this an advocacy position. You will not be “spreading the word,” covering medical issues or writing for the general public. Your beat will be strictly focused on operational, financial, legal and other business-related issues of a highly practical nature to professionals who are already in the industry.
You should excel at:
– Source-building with entrepreneurs and major investors
– Telephone and in-person interviews with entrepreneurs who may not be used to dealing with the media
– Understanding complex industries (cannabis is a highly regulated and ever-changing industry)
– Writing B2B feature stories (1,800-2,000 words) as well as shorter news stories with a business spin (400-800 words.)
– Multitasking and juggling multiple deadlines/story-types
– Researching and explaining regulatory and financial news for the business reader
– Producing content for print, online and social media
– Coordinating projects with fellow editorial colleagues on staff
– Networking with industry professionals at business events and trade shows
Your responsibilities will include:
– Writing the majority of feature stories in our bi-monthly print magazine, Marijuana Business Magazine, based on single-source and multiple-source interviews.
– Writing a weekly feature story for Marijuana Business Daily, an online publication
– Assisting the Daily’s reporting staff with occasional news briefs when needed
– Assisting our Business Reports division with occasional interview-based research
– Recommending sources who would make good speakers for our conferences
– Moderating some sessions at our conferences
– Attending occasional industry events, especially in regions outside Colorado
