Public radio station KCRW seeks a producer for The Business with Kim Masters, our weekly look behind the glitz and glamor of Hollywood at the real business of show business.
Qualified candidates will be familiar with the sound and content of the show; know how to turn pitches into interesting conversations; book, record and edit interviews, and work collaboratively with the host to continue making the show a must-listen for anyone interested in the workings of film and television. Must be well-organized, exhibit strong editorial judgment, and write well for radio.
Technical requirements include knowledge of ProTools 11, Dalet, and field recording kits. An ability to run a board is also preferred.
Duties include:
*The producer will work closely with host Kim Masters to develop show topics.
*Book guests
*Record or coordinate interviews (in studio and in field) with production team
*Field pitches from publicists and contributors
*Make pitches to guests, reps and outlets
*Work with contributors on feature stories.
*Research ideas for guests, banter topics, and stories
*Write and edit scripts
*Write web copy
*Pull clips from DVDs or the interview
*Find music cues
*Produce occasional feature stories
*Conduct occasional interviews
*Stay up to date on top news items and changing landscape of the entertainment business
*Attend screenings and watch screeners of movies and TV shows
*Manage social media for KCRW’s The Business
*Edit promos for the show
The position also oversees production of the 4-minute Hollywood Breakdown that airs on KCRW’s All Things Considered on Thursdays, and produce our monthly look at shifting television habits called The Spin-Off.
