The Wall Street Journal announced Wednesday the launch of a new column entitled, “Letter From The City,” which will appear Monday through Friday in the international finance pages of the Money & Investing section.
This column coincides with the U.S. edition being published in London, which will be available to individual and corporate subscribers and at newsstands across central London.
“Letter From The City,” will go behind the scenes of London’s financial center, the district known as the City.
The column is written by staff reporters at the London bureaus of The Journal, Dow Jones Newswires and sister publication Financial News. Together, they have more than 70 reporters covering finance, the markets, banks and investors in the City. The column will report on trends, executive changes, and significant deals, as well as offer insight into the City.
“The Journal has always provided expert insight and analysis into the world’s financial markets,” said Marcus W. Brauchli, managing editor, in a statement. “With the steady rise of London as a global financial capital for many countries, companies and banks outside of the U.S., we saw a need to serve our readers in a new way. The addition of ‘Letter From The City’ and the U.S. Journal being published in London continues to uphold the Journal’s commitment and dedication to covering international business.”
The goal of the column is to provide a wide range of readers insight into the mood of the City and the larger business and financial sectors in Britain.
In some cases, items will be based on corporate or markets news and trends that have been reported and written earlier in the day, reworked to include more context, color and interpretation for readers who might be unfamiliar with the people or companies discussed. In other cases, items will feature interesting or amusing things a reporter stumbles across, but that don’t really fit into a traditional story.
