Rusty Garrett, the business editor of the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, Ark., has retired from the paper.
His final day was June 14.
“My retirement concludes 40 years in journalism and 14 with the SWTR,” said Garrett in an email to Talking Biz News. “I am proud to have been a part of a great profession and to have worked with some of the best in the business.”
“My retirement plans are nebulous at this point. I am searching for options in part-time work to help supplement my retirement income.”
He joined the staff in 1999 as a business news reporter. He has covered city and county beats as well as an assortment of general news and feature assignments.
Garrett has a journalism degree from the University of Missouri and has worked at newspapers in north and east Texas, and in Fayetteville. He was born in south Texas.
