FairWarning.org announced Tuesday a new grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, which has renewed its support with an award of $75,000.
FairWarning is a nonprofit investigative news organization based in Los Angeles that focuses on health and safety issues, and related topics of government and business accountability. The grant will help FairWarning continue to produce strong watchdog journalism, and to seek ways to broaden its base of support.
“We are grateful to Ethics and Excellence in Journalism for supporting our work,” said Myron Levin, executive director and editor of FairWarning, in a statement. “The grant is a nice vote of confidence and will help us to fill critical budget needs.”
Levin also announced that Robert Gunnison, a veteran journalist and former director of school affairs at the graduate school of journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, has agreed to join FairWarning’s board. “We’re excited that Rob is coming to our board,” Levin said. “He’ll be a terrific addition.”
Ethics and Excellence has awarded three previous grants to FairWarning. The latest includes a challenge: Along with an immediate gift of $50,000, another $25,000 is payable as a match once $25,000 is raised from first-time donors. “If you have been thinking about supporting FairWarning with a tax-deductible donation,” Levin said, “this would be a perfect time.”
