Rebecca Salner, who has been at the San Jose Mercury News for the past 25 years, has been named the paper’s assistant managing editor for business news, according to a short story in Wednesday’s paper.
The item said, “Salner, 47, has been assistant managing editor for investigative projects for the past three years.
“A journalism graduate of San Francisco State University, Salner came to the Mercury News as a reporter in 1982 from the San Francisco Examiner, and covered courts, government, politics and general assignment before becoming an editor.
“As an assistant managing editor, Salner has at various points overseen the national and foreign desks, the business news sections and the Sports section, was food editor, and served briefly as the paper’s assistant managing editor for business in 2000. Among her many jobs at the newspaper was a stint as its first Silicon Valley life editor, which focused on what makes the region exceptional, and, before that, city editor.”
