Leslie Eaton, the Dallas bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement to the staff on Tuesday:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced, versatile journalist to join the Dallas Bureau as deputy chief. The bureau is among the busiest in the Dow Jones empire, covering big-box retailing, energy in all its manifestations, and regional news in a swathe of the country stretching from Texas to Wyoming, New Mexico to Arkansas.
We break news and write a wide variety of pieces; in addition to our prize-winning Deepwater Horizon coverage, stories of late have focused on holiday shopping madness, Rick Perry’s presidential ambitions, gun-running in New Mexico, the boom in U.S. oil production, and aheds on bison, feral pigs, and deer smuggling. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of interests, excellent news judgment, writing and editing expertise, and good communication skills (our reporters are spread out across the region).
While we would prefer a deputy with some management experience, we are also expecting the deputy to find and write stories for the paper and jump in on breaking news as needed.
