Jay Conti, the lead lawyer on The Wall Street Journal’s coverage of the Theranos blood-testing company a decade ago, shared what it was like to vet the investigation.

He noted that Theranos’ attorneys sent the newspaper a 23-page letter about its coverage.

“We had off and on conversations for a few months,” said Conti about his conversations with reporter John Carreyrou and his reporting.

He noted that the Journal’s story had an “understated” headline, but the reporting was devastating.

“It was enormous legal pressure prior to publication,” said Conti, noting that sources were double and triple-checked.
