Posted by Chris Roush

Politico is seeking a driven, enterprising reporter to cover lobbying, money and the unelected power structure in Washington. We’re looking for someone who can deliver scoops on K Street moves, narrate trends in the influence game and tell compelling, high-impact stories of how people, organizations and industries are jockeying to shape U.S. politics and policy.

This reporter will write our Politico Influence newsletter and produce original reporting across platforms.

Who You Are:

  • A proactive, voracious reporter with a love of Washington politics and policy who is constantly digging for scoops and stories
  • A perceptive thinker who notices the seeds of a storyline that others might miss and connects the dots on larger trends
  • A strong writer who turns in clean, concise copy
  • A collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills

What You’ll Do:

  • Play a central role in our Influence newsletter, ensuring an interesting, distinct, useful and enjoyable product for our subscribers
  • Deliver must-read scoops and enterprise stories on lobbying action and Washington’s revolving door
  • Partner with journalists across the newsroom to elevate the scope of Politico’s influence coverage

What You’ll Need:

  • Several years of relevant reporting experience, preferably in covering Washington and its power brokers
  • A track record of breaking news and sourcing up on a competitive beat
  • A mix of excellent news judgment and curiosity. You should be able to dig through seemingly routine FEC filings and lobbying reports and find a gem of a story.
