Reuters global enterprise editor Mike Williams shared the below note with staff:
All,
I’m excited to announce that investigative journalist Lori Hinnant is joining Reuters as our new EMEA Investigations editor.
Lori, who joins us from the Associated Press, brings with her an impressive record of achievement. Last year, she was part of the AP team that won both the Pulitzer Prize for public service and the Academy Award for best documentary for their coverage of the fall of Mariupol, among many other honors. In 2018, she and her AP colleagues (including Maggie Michael) were Pulitzer finalists in international reporting for their coverage of the defeat of Islamic State. Lori also bring us a remarkable range of skills and experience – from investigative journalism and war correspondence to running breaking-news coverage, multimedia teams and a digital-content desk.
Based in Paris, Lori will drive our investigative and explanatory journalism in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In her new role, she will report to Peter Hirschberg and collaborate with text and visual journalists across this vast region. She’ll begin in mid-January.
Lori got her start in journalism in Monterey, California, as a police and courts reporter. She joined the AP in 1999 as a reporter in New Jersey, going on to cover the 9/11 attacks from across the Hudson River before turning to editing on the AP’s national and international desks. After stints in Iraq and Afghanistan, she moved to Paris, where she led coverage of the 2015 Islamic State attacks in Paris before joining the investigations team.
Please join me in welcoming Lori to Reuters and wishing her success in her new role.
Thanks and best,
Mike
