Financial Times editor in chief Roula Khalaf sent out the following on Friday:

Hello everyone

I’m pleased to share with you two appointments on the US news desk. They come at a critical moment in US politics, and will build on the outstanding work done under the leadership of Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson and Derek Brower in the year leading up to Tuesday night.

From 1 December, Derek will take up the role of US news editor and he will join the executive editor group. The US news desk will be further strengthened with the appointment of Adam Samson as executive news editor, also from 1 December. These moves will put us in an excellent position to cover the second Trump presidency, which is likely to be even more chaotic than the first.

Andrew — Edge to all of us — was due to return to his role as US business editor following the selection, and I was looking forward to seeing him lead our coverage of US companies and industry. But he informed us recently that after more than 27 years as an FT journalist he will be leaving us to take up a senior role elsewhere. Edge has been a wonderful colleague and a brilliant journalist. We will miss him greatly but I wish him all the success in his next role.
