Rest of World seeks a labor x tech editor

Rest of World now seeks to bring on a Labor x Tech Editor to work with the organization for one year to build a robust reporting network and develop a strong pipeline of stories that explore how work is being transformed by tech in communities throughout the world. This editor will be tasked with publishing at least 4 stories a month, and collaborating with our global team on ambitious editorial projects. We’re looking for an experienced editor who combines rigorous editing skills who can hit the ground running.

This is a one-year full-time contract position with a salary of $75,000. Selected candidates will be asked to take a paid writing and editing test as a part of the interview process. The role can be based anywhere in the world, but candidates must have the right to work where they live. Rest of World will not sponsor work authorizations on behalf of the candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Publish at least 4 stories per month, ranging from short turnaround reports to longer features and multi-regional projects
  • Develop a top-tier contributor network of 10-12 reporters based around the world
  • Train and mentor the contributor network through regular check-ins as well as workshops
  • Work with other editors to become Rest of World’s authority on the state of labor issues around the world
  • Collaborate closely and constantly with the audience team to ensure the stories have engaging headlines, share posts, and a promotion strategy

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience in journalism or publishing, with at least 3+ years in editing
  • Fluency in English is required. Language skills that allow working with international reporters are a major plus
  • Experience reporting on business, tech and labor preferred
  • Experience managing journalists is preferred
  • A strong work ethic, comfort with startup conditions, a motivated self-starter
  • Collaborative, enjoys working in teams with different disciplines and learning from others
