Jason Tuohey of the Boston Globe has been hired as managing editor of Yahoo News.

Tuohey will oversee day-to-day operations in the U.S. newsroom and focus on critical growth initiatives for Yahoo News’ original journalism.

“Jason is a strong leader who has an excellent track record driving digital innovation and growth,” said Kat Downs Mulder, senior vice president and general manager of Yahoo News, in a statement. “As Yahoo News expands, Jason will play an instrumental role in aligning editorial and tech team priorities to improve and grow user engagement.”

Tuohey will report to Executive Editor Lauren Johnston.

“Yahoo News has assembled a best-in-class team, and I look forward to joining Lauren and the editorial staff,” said Tuohey. “I’m grateful to work with a team that not only values quality content, but also shares a collective curiosity for exploring fresh ways to engage readers.”

At the Globe, Tuohey was managing editor for audience and new platforms, responsible for digital publishing and news coverage. Notably, he launched BostonGlobe.com in 2011.
