Cristina Silva will join The Boston Globe on Nov. 28 as managing editor for local news. In her new role, she will work closely with the Metro, Business, Express, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire teams.
Silva will report to the Globe’s editor Nancy Barnes. Silva commented:
“I am deeply honored to rejoin The Boston Globe, this time as Managing Editor for Local News. The Globe’s legacy of excellence and its commitment to serving the community have long shaped who I am as a journalist.
She added: “I look forward to supporting this talented newsroom and working closely with the community to deliver the exemplary news coverage Boston and New England deserve.”
Previously, Silva worked at the Globe from May 2005 to August 2006 as a fellow.
Currently, she serves as managing editor for national news at USA Today. Before this, she held the posts of national enterprise editor and deputy managing editor for enterprise.
She was a news director at Newsweek and held the posts of senior editor for breaking news and managing editor at the International Business Times.
She reported for The Associated Press, was a staff writer at The St. Petersburg Times, and interned at The Miami Herald.
Silva has a B.A. in journalism and politics from New York University.
