Are you ready to elevate your journalism career? The Ottumwa Courier is seeking a dedicated and passionate journalist to step into the role of Associate Editor, a pivotal position within our dynamic newsroom. As the No. 2 editor, you will play an integral role in shaping the quality and direction of our esteemed publication.

Qualifications We Are Seeking:

  • Proficient writer with a keen eye for detail.
  • Organized self-starter with strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent collaborator and adept communicator.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred, though relevant on-the-job experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with AP Stylebook, sound typing skills, and an understanding of journalism ethics and standards are desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in Ottumwa Courier’s Editorial Board.
  • Cover local education and other pertinent stories.
  • Manage the production of special publications and magazines, overseeing both content and layout.
  • Supervise obituaries and celebrations announcements.
  • Provide editorial guidance and support to staff members.
  • Contribute to the daily news budget and facilitate the production process.
