The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times’ Michael Slackman:

Mark Getzfred

Today, I’d like to take a minute to thank Mark Getzfred of the News team and tell you about his new title.

Effective immediately, Mark is news director, days.

For those of you who have worked with Mark, you will understand immediately that this title simply reaffirms the work he already does while also emphasizing our commitment to news as a pillar of our report.

Mark began his career at The Times on the National copy desk in 1999 and was a mainstay there through the contested presidential election of 2000. With a background in financial journalism, he moved to Business, where he served as night editor and then as one of the editors who helped the department with its digital transition.

He rose to be the deputy weekend editor for the newsroom in 2011, primarily overseeing the digital report. He later moved back to his first home on the National desk, this time as day editor.

Please congratulate Mark on his new and well-deserved title. We are lucky to have him in this important role.
