Martha Stewart’s Associate Editorial Director is integral to driving brand growth, directing the team’s overarching workflow, and ensuring all brand standards and growth KPIs are met. Candidates should be passionate about creating strong, strategic editorial content that resonates with Martha Stewart’s core audience and be able to balance those editorial initiatives with other remediation and healthy domain projects.
Our ideal candidate is energetic and comfortable with a fast-paced daily flow. They have at least six years of digital content experience, with a proven ability to think strategically and edit content that drives traffic. They have an exceptional ability to recognize and create engaging, SEO-friendly pieces; proven project management expertise; and a love of lifestyle content that is core to the Martha Stewart brand, whether that’s gardening or food.
Our Associate Editorial Director must be a tactical thinker who can create and manage an editorial calendar, write detailed project instructions, track on various projects, oversee a content budget, and educate and evangelize projects with the editorial staff where their input and expertise is needed. Their strong editorial skills mean they can top-edit all content—written by full-time employees or freelancers—for quality, SEO, best practices, and brand style. They must also be detail- and deadline-driven to track on the day-to-day tasks that are crucial to our business, highly organized, collaborative, and adept at using analytics and current SEO best practices to make editorial decisions.
Our ideal candidate also has experience managing a team and has used tools like content management systems (Drupal/Wordpress), Google Analytics, and SEM Rush.

- Create and oversee the daily editorial content calendar, top editing stories and ensuring output goals.
- Take the lead on special projects identified to grow traffic and maintain the health of the site. Work with brand General Manager and Senior Editorial Director; Product, Audience, and Growth departments; and other colleagues to plan and execute projects that meet KPIs and are consistent with the brand’s voice and positioning.
- Through big-picture story selection as well as story-level editing and project updates, optimize content for searchability and discoverability—and teach other brand contributors to do the same.
- Use SEO knowledge and insights to collaborate with Senior Editorial Director and all members of the editorial team on content ideation and planning.
- Assign and top-edit freelance content that supports evergreen content planning.
- Onboard, mentor, and manage assigned staff and contractors so they are able to write and edit to brand standards for meeting KPIs.

- Write, edit, and update stories as needed to meet goals for staff contributions. Coordinate writing and execution of sales-related content programs as assigned.
- Ideate and help execute big-scale ideas and packages, from digital issues to spotlight features.

- Help strategize content plans so they meet budget and quantity objectives. Manage project budgets (from Quality Team, etc.) and work within the allocation for freelance contributors.

- Other duties as assigned, including representing the brand in interviews and at industry events and mentoring and training other staff.
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
- At least 6 years assigning and editing experience; includes 2+ years top editing /digital experience.
- Experience analyzing SEO-related data and making editorial recommendations to drive traffic.
Specific Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Proven project manager able to create workflow and clearly communicate the process among groups.
- Ability to edit a variety of different types of content, including health, instructional, and news content.
- Must be a strong top editor and manager.
- Skilled display copywriter able to turn out highly clickable copy for social, search, and other traffic channels.
- Must be extremely organized and able to juggle many responsibilities.
