The Washington Post is looking for an outstanding journalist to serve as its next deputy national editor, with the mission of helping to drive ambitious and revelatory coverage of the country, its people and its institutions.
Together with the national editor, the deputy national editor is responsible for guiding the reporting and editing across the National department and shaping high-profile, consequential storylines. This is a demanding job that requires running multiple major stories at once. Excellent editorial judgment and rigor are a must, as are sharp news instincts and a sophisticated understanding of the issues defining American life today.
The deputy plays a key role in helping manage a large staff to its fullest potential and in promoting collaboration across the newsroom. We are looking for an energetic and thoughtful leader with a record of mobilizing journalists to execute compelling coverage. The ideal candidate will be a skilled manager and clear communicator who has deft instincts about how to resolve challenges and is committed to a supportive and inclusive work environment.
We are seeking someone with a high metabolism and competitive drive who embraces innovation and will push The Post’s agenda-setting scoops and engrossing narratives to new audiences. The deputy must embrace the opportunity to work with partners across the newsroom to ensure The Post’s coverage of the nation is urgent, rigorous and deeply reported.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
