Miami Today seeks a reporter

August 2, 2023

Posted by Mariam Ahmed

Miami Today seeks to add a serious hard news reporter to cover government in booming Miami. You will be writing for an involved audience and will be providing these readers impartial, insightful and detailed articles that they might act upon.

  • You should be comfortable with local governments
  • Clear in providing financial underpinnings of government actions
  • You will become expert in your beat area and build contacts with the agencies and persons you cover.
  • You will also write Q&A cover interviews with high-profile Miamians
  • Contribute articles to weekly special sections.
  • You will work remotely from the office for the most part but must be available to attend meeting and events in the community and to cover news in person.

Miami is perhaps the best community for local news in the nation. One of your challenges will be to select among possible reporting assignments to produce articles with long-term impact and importance. Because Miami is also a community of newcomers, you will work to put background and context into your reports.

You will be writing for a well-educated audience and will probably be writing about some subjects that are new to you, requiring some research and backgrounding.

Miami Today is an award-winning weekly newspaper in its 41st year with digital components of some of our articles at miamitodaynews.com as well as a full paid digital edition. Please review the website before you apply.

Please apply to the editor at mlewis@miamitodaynews.com with your resume, cover letter and three news clips of which you are proud.
