With little doubt Alden Capital will gut the newly acquired San Diego Union-Tribune to enrich its principals, editor-publisher Jeff Light (pictured) has left after 13 years. Sad news for Hearst, too, which has laid off 41 people at its premier magazines. On the brighter side, the stellar Texas Tribune has three new editorial fellows.
