Under general supervision of the WBHM News Director and Program Director, to be responsible for an air-shift during news and information programming on WBHM. To produce feature reports to air on WBHM, and to be published online on WBHM.org and on social media. To assist with all fundraisers and to perform a variety of duties and special assignments in support of WBHM as deemed necessary by WBHM s News Director, Program Director and/or General Manager. This position is required to keep abreast of best practices in the field and remain up-to-date on current trends and new technologies. This position should anticipate change and ensure the organization is positioned to succeed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver local newscasts/make local announcements during NPR’s All Things Considered
- Operate audio console
- Pitch and report feature, spot and digital stories
- Conduct interviews with local leaders, community members and newsmakers.
- Participate in station fundraising
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Media, Communications or a related field
- Four (4) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
- Minimum hiring rate must meet the most current FLSA guidelines for salary level and basis to remain exempt.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A proven track record of reporting or hosting in a journalistic setting
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated writing ability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with audio storytelling, audio editing and automation software, the public media system and community engagement
- Deep knowledge of Birmingham, Alabama and the South

Salary Range: $43,235 – $60,000
