The Tampa Bay Times is looking for a data reporter who can help make sense of what’s happening in the Tampa Bay economy as well as keep tabs on the health of our local communities. There is plenty of room to roam on these data-rich beats.

The ideal candidate knows how to obtain, assess and present data sets in multiple formats and is comfortable using advanced data reporting tools. They are skilled at negotiating for data, cleaning it and communicating it to readers. We’re looking for curious, resourceful reporters who can find and break news, identify deeper patterns and trends and can hold the powerful to account. We’re hoping to find a team player who is comfortable collaborating with our top-notch business team as well as two experienced health reporters.

This position will be part of a new Data Hub, led by a data editor, that will include four other reporters. The hub embeds journalists with strong data reporting or visualization skills on different teams in the newsroom to find stories and present them in innovative or visually compelling ways. The hub members will learn from and collaborate with each other and the editor, talking through ideas and taking our data journalism to the next level.
