The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times’ national editor Jia Lynn Yang:
I’m thrilled to share that Henri Cauvin is joining National as a deputy editor and will edit coverage of crime, legal issues, immigration and the Mid-Atlantic. Henri most recently was a senior editor at ProPublica from 2018 to 2022.
Before joining ProPublica, he was city editor at The Times, where he started as an editor on the Metro Desk in 2013. Henri oversaw coverage of the New York Police Department, the state and federal courts in New York, and low-income housing and homelessness.
Before joining the Metro Desk at The Times, Henri worked at The Washington Post as a reporter and editor. Prior to The Post, he had his first stint with The Times, reporting from South Africa, where his wife, Rachel Swarns, was the paper’s bureau chief.
At The Post, The Times and ProPublica, Henri worked on efforts to increase newsroom diversity and improve mentoring. He’s a member of the NABJ and IRE.
