WILX News 10 is hiring a Senior Reporter to lead our award-winning newscasts. This is your chance to dive deep and tell the important stories that affect the community. Lansing, the capital of Michigan, is a strong news market, home to Michigan State University, and a great place to live. This is NOT an entry-level MMJ position. You will be working with a photographer daily to produce must-see, impactful journalism.
Responsibilities:
- Lead coverage of breaking news and severe weather
- Write, collaborate, and present compelling stories with a photojournalist
- Be a visual storyteller; perform creative standups and explanatory live reports
- Develop and interview news sources within the community
- Working knowledge of journalism law, including Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Act
- Work with news director on targeted special reports each month
- Develop new and additional content specifically for digital, providing depth of understanding on issues across those platforms; connecting viewers to impactful journalism and increasing engagement
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must have a proven track record of successful television stories
- Superb writing skills; be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner using broadcast and AP-writing style
- Possess excellent interview and conversational writing skills
- Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills
- Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software (such as ENPS)
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Strong initiative and attention to detail
- Demonstrate solid news judgment, journalistic ethics, and professional conduct
- Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications
