The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is seeking a city editor to direct daily news coverage and enterprise reporting at Hawaii’s largest news-gathering organization. Our city editor leads a staff of 15 reporters and three assistant editors as they cover breaking news for our print and online editions in a highly competitive market.
The successful candidate will be an excellent editor who is comfortable generating story and project ideas, coaching reporters at all experience levels, and engaging with our readers and community members. It’s a big job, and we need someone who’s comfortable juggling a thousand things a day, then doing it all over again the next day.
Organizational, planning and deadline skills are a must, as are a sense of urgency and a deep appreciation for the importance of accurately reporting the news for our diverse, dynamic island community. This is not an entry-level position; experience covering and editing news at a metropolitan newspaper is required. To apply for the position, please send your resume, a letter of introduction and a few samples of your work to Marsha McFadden, managing editor/news, at mmcfadden@staradvertiser.com.
Salary: Negotiable
