Eli Saslow

The New York Times has hired Eli Saslow as a writer at large. He will begin in February.

An excerpt from the announcement reads:

Eli takes on some of the biggest and most sensitive issues in American life — gun violence, poverty, immigration, the opioid epidemic — and helps readers understand how the most vulnerable people are affected.

Eli has won the Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting, and been a finalist for feature writing three times.

At The Times, Eli will continue to write his signature narrative stories chronicling people across the country whose lives intersect with national themes. A graduate of Syracuse University, Eli was hired by The Washington Post in 2004 as a high school sports reporter for a weekly insert. He has written three books and a movie. His work has won two George Polk Awards, A PEN Literary Award and other honors.

Please join us in congratulating Eli and welcoming him to The Times.
