GBH (which produces digital and broadcast programming through WGBH-FM 89.7 in Boston) has named Susan Goldberg its president and CEO, making her the first woman to hold these posts since GBH was founded in 1951.
Recently Goldberg held the post of Vice Dean, Professor of Practice at Arizona State University.
Goldberg has also served as editor in chief of National Geographic and editorial director of National Geographic Partners. Under her leadership, National Geographic was honored with 11 national magazine awards, was the finalist for the Pulitzer Prize three times, was twice named Webby Media Company of the Year, and won hundreds of other awards for its stories, photos, podcasts, illustrations, and graphics across platforms.
Goldberg also expanded National Geographic’s partnerships, creating content with ABC News, The Undefeated, ProPublica, and the National Geographic Channel.
She was executive editor of local, state and federal government news and Washington bureau chief at Bloomberg. She also held editorial roles at The Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Mercury News, USA Today and the Detroit Free Press.
She began her career at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Goldberg has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
