Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for an exceptional journalist to drive ambitious coverage of major Europe-based retailers. The European retail correspondent will work closely with reporters in the region, and globally, to build sources, break news and dive deeply into the corporate strategies of some of the biggest retailers in the world including specialty retailers such as H&M, Ikea, Adidas and Puma. The correspondent also will build sources at, and cover, the European operations of global retailers including Amazon and Alibaba.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, working closely with other teams including our retail reporting teams in the U.S., Bangalore and reporters across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

This role is advertised with a London base but can be located in another major European centre for candidates outside the UK.

As our European Retail Correspondent, you will:

  • Deliver breaking news at speed and provide unparalleled insights on those developments
  • Identify and develop exclusive news stories that will distinguish Reuters from other media organizations
  • Collaborate closely with reporters across Europe and in other regions
  • Work with multimedia teams including pictures, graphics and video to develop 360-degree storytelling

To be our European Retail Correspondent, you will likely have:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience reporting or editing at a major news organization, including business reporting; familiarity with retail companies and/or consumer companies is preferred.
  • Can demonstrate your skill at conceptualizing and breaking distinctive, agenda-setting stories
  • Are able to work collaboratively with others; we’re looking for a seasoned business reporter who can work with bureaus and domestic language reporters
  • Show a track record of breaking exclusive news of global significance, while demonstrating strong writing skills; knowledge of one or more European languages is an advantage
