Emily Baumgaertner will join The New York Times’ health desk as a roving national health correspondent. Baumgaertner begins on September 6.
Previously, Baumgaertner worked at the Times from March 2017 to February 2019 as a news assistant in its Washington bureau.
Recently, she was at the Los Angeles Times, where she covered the pandemic and a range of public health issues as a national health correspondent. Before that, she served as a science and medicine reporter.
She was a journalist, health projects coordinator at the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting.
Baumgaertner won a National Headliners Award and was a finalist for the Livingston Award. She is a graduated of the George Washington University.
