New York Times graphics editor Archie Tse sent out the following on Tuesday:
We’re excited to announce that Allison McCartney is joining the Graphics department as a story editor focused on elections and other data projects. She will start by jumping into our midterm election efforts as we build out our results presentation for November.
Allison was a special projects editor at Bloomberg News where she led and published results graphics and analysis for a variety of elections, and reported and edited graphics on stories like big oil emissions and the Jan. 6 riot. She started at Bloomberg as a graphics developer after previous roles at ProPublica and the Brown Institute for Media Innovation.
Allison earned a master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University, and received her undergraduate degree from Washington University where she studied Jewish, Islamic and Near Eastern Studies, Arabic and art.
Please welcome her to The Times.
