Fortune is hiring a high-metabolism reporter to join our growing Finance team.
We’re looking for a standout reporter with a strong background writing about money and markets. Our team covers a wide breadth of topics, from stock-picking and investing trend pieces, to startups, M&A, hedge funds, venture capital, real estate, the broader economy, and beyond. We’re looking for someone well-sourced in the world of finance who is a clean, engaging, and quick writer.
The right candidate will have a familiarity with Fortune 500 companies and leaders, an interest in markets and money, and a willingness to dive deep into these topics. Our team’s coverage lives behind our paywall, so you must have a proven track record of delivering exclusive scoops and access that readers will not find elsewhere.
You should be comfortable contributing to a fast-paced team and pivoting from quick hits on the news to deeper profiles, analysis, and service pieces. Our newsroom thrives on collaboration, experimentation, and telling great stories across platforms.
Members of our team are expected to write roughly 3 pieces per week, while also working on longer form stories for the website and the print magazine.
You will:
· Strategize and execute finance stories and scoops
· Advance the story everyone is talking about with fresh insight
· Bring a background in finance to newsroom-wide brainstorms and conversations
· Juggle weekly coverage while also contributing to our conferences and live events
· Collaborate with editors and writers across the newsroom on breaking news and special packages
· Ensure our coverage includes a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices
· Uphold Fortune’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, and fairness
The right candidate:
· Has proven financial reporting experience in a digital environment
· Has a robust understanding of the major trends driving the markets
· Brings a deep network of sources, writers, and speakers
· Exercises careful, considered news judgment
· Is driven to tell important stories that hold those in power accountable
· Is infinitely curious and always has a story idea ready to go
· Is eager to try out new formats, from recording a video to contributing to a newsletter
· Edits clean, accurate, and insightful copy on deadline
· Is flexible and adaptable
· Effectively prioritizes tasks in a fast-paced environment and juggles creative personalities
· Communicates professionally and effectively in a remote environment
We know there’s not a single perfect candidate for any job, so if you feel like you have the right skills to bring to this position but they differ from what we’ve listed above, we’d still love to hear from you.
Fortune’s headquarters is in NYC, but our editorial team is distributed across time zones and international borders. We encourage applicants between the coasts to apply.
