Inframation, a global publication that covers private infrastructure investing and is part of Acuris and Ion Analytics, is hiring a reporter to cover public private partnerships in Canada and the US.
State and local governments use these partnerships, known as P3s, as an alternative means to procure the funding, construction and operation of critical infrastructure like bridges, water systems and high-speed internet.
P3s are expected to play a key role in funding infrastructure programs as part of President Biden’s infrastructure bill, creating plenty of opportunities to get scoops and analyze the wider implications of the P3 model.
The right candidate will be hungry to break news and go beyond government press releases to uncover what is actually happening in the market.
Coverage of P3s combines elements of political, financial and public interest reporting, making this role ideal for a newspaper or B2B journalist with experience covering state and local governments and/or finance.
Areas of focus are expected to include university, water/wastewater and renewable energy P3 projects in the US and the overall P3 market in Canada.
With a strong focus on investigative reporting, the right candidate should be as comfortable working independently as collaborating with an experienced team of reporters and editors. The right candidate will be a natural networker, who can grasp new concepts quickly and think creatively.

This role can be based in either our Charlottesville, Virginia, Chicago or New York bureau with the opportunity to travel to key events in the US and Canada. Exceptional remote candidates will also be considered.

Your Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop sources in the P3 market in order to break news on projects from the initial stage to financial close
- Write one longer-form analysis and/or news analysis piece every month.
- Participate in Inframation’s podcast
- Travel as needed to attend key industry events
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Two or more years’ experience as a financial journalist at trade publication, wire or local newspaper producing originally-sourced exclusive and actionable news
- A passion for getting exclusive news first
- Clear and concise writing style
- A basic understanding of the capital markets (debt and equity), M&A and US and Canadian politics
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
