The New York Times has tapped Christine Chung, Amanda Holpuch and Vimal Patel as general assignment reporters on the express desk.
Chung joins from The City, a local news website focused on accountability journalism in New York. Before that, she covered local government, development and community issues in North Hempstead for Newsday’s Long Island desk.
Chung has a B.A. from Williams College and a M.S. in journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
Holpuch joins from The Guardian U.S., where she has been for over 9 years, recently working as a national correspondent, covering news and enterprise stories. Previously, she worked as a reporter. She has also interned at The New York Daily News and Rodale in New York.
Holpuch graduated from New York University.
Patel was previously a reporter at The Chronicle of Higher Education with nearly 12 years in journalism. Patel has recently been working temporarily on the express desk. He interned at The Denver Post and the Los Angeles Times, then worked a few years at The Bryan-College Station Eagle, a Texas daily, before joining The Chronicle.
There, he also ran the internship program for three years.
Patel majored in journalism at Colorado State.
