The New York Times Magazine has named Bill Wasik editorial director, Jessica Lustig deputy editor – politics and investigations, and Ilena Silverman deputy editor – features.
Wasik joined The Times from Wired, where he was a senior editor covering tech, business, science, politics, and other topics. Before that, he held the same post at Harper’s. He has also worked at The New Yorker and published two books.
In his new role, he will have more responsibility for the back end of the process.
Lustig was recently deputy editor at the magazine. Before that, she held the post of staff editor of The Times op-ed/Sunday Review section.
In her new role, she will be responsible for deepening the political coverage and building greater investigative capacity. She will also be “assigning, developing, editing or top editing all politics and investigative stories for the magazine, and she’ll be the main point of contact for the newsroom’s politics and investigative teams as well.”
Silverman has been a features editor at The Times for the past seven years. Previously, she has also worked at GQ Magazine and Harper’s.
In her new role, she will be doing more top editing.
