ROI-NJ, the top business news outlet in New Jersey, is looking for a versatile journalist with a range of reporting, writing and editing skills to join our energetic team.
We regularly break news and scoop the competition. And, while we produce plenty of traditional business news (think commercial real estate, health care, tech, higher ed, government, law and finance), we also report on DEI, culture and lifestyle — which keeps us from being an old, static news source.
After all, we’re not.
ROI-NJ, which was created in 2017 by a veteran team that previously worked at top state and national organizations (Yahoo, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Star-Ledger), has grown into a well-respected digital and print publication. Now, we’re looking to grow our staff.
And, while we no longer are a startup, we have kept the culture: Simply put, we’re looking for a hard worker who prides themselves on being a team player.
Industry veterans and recent grads are both welcome to apply. We are looking to build the position around the person – not find a person to fit a preconceived position.
Duties
You may be called on to do a variety of tasks, including:
- Reporting: There’s plenty of opportunity to do original reporting, both hard news and features. We expect you to break stories and get the big interview.
- Event coverage: We’re looking for someone who can quickly turn stories from industry panels and conferences – while picking up a few other stories while you are there.
- Editing: The ability to read and post stories and build newsletters, as needed to support the copy desk.
Send your resume, a few clips and a few sentences about what you think business news should be, to editor Tom Bergeron at tbergeron@roi-nj.com. Or give him a call at 973-294-4863.
