Staff members at The Atlantic have unionized affiliating themselves with the News Guild, which also represents employees at The New York Times and many other outlets.
The union covers approximately 85 employees, including writers, editors, fact checkers and producers.
As per The New York Times, The Atlantic Union said in a statement on Twitter – “the American press — its freedoms, its stability and its future — is at a precarious moment. We believe that we are stronger collectively than individually, and that the future of journalism is brighter when its workers are united.”
The union marks the latest in a recent surge of organizing efforts across digital media.
The organization intends to voluntarily recognize the union.
